believing in Jesus Christ

Many months back, i received an email, from a christian person, who said something to this effect:

Hi,
I want to tell you, that just because you were born Muslim, it does not mean that you have to remain as you are.

Then he went on to say how Islam teaches violence...like 'wife beating' and how Islam promotes sex.

Then he said : You can go to Heaven is you let Jesus Christ be your saviour and blah blah blah..
(i forgot the whole thing.. but something to that effect la..)

I thought about how I should answer this person.

It's not that I don't believe in what Jesus Christ taught to his people. I do. Muslims do.

But we don't believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God. I don't understand how sometimes they can say that they believe in ONE God, yet they say that God has a son.

I wanted to answer him in the most appropriate way. I thought about what would be the best reply. I was still thinking about it over the next week or two..

Then, as if Allah SWT nak kasi ilham, I came across these exact verses, as I was reading the Quran one day.

: They say "Become Jews or Christians if ye would be guided (To salvation)." Say thou: "Nay! (I would rather) the Religion of Abraham the True, and he joined not gods with God."

: Say ye: "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)."

: So if they believe as ye believe, they are indeed on the right path; but if they turn back, it is they who are in schism; but Allah will suffice thee as against them, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

: "(Our religion is) the Baptism of Allah. And who can baptize better than Allah. And it is He Whom we worship".

: Say "Will ye dispute with us about Allah, seeing that He is our Lord and your Lord; that we are responsible for our doings and ye for yours; and that We are sincere (in our faith) in Him?"

: "Or do ye say that Abraham, Isma'il Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes were Jews or Christians? Say: Do ye know better than Allah? Ah! who is more unjust than those who conceal the testimony they have from Allah. but Allah is not unmindful of what ye do!"

Al Quran, Al-Baqarah 2:135-140

MasyaAllah, I was in awe. I immediately answered that email.. just as Allah SWT has taught us to.

That person never replied. If that person is sincere, in finding the Truth, then I hope Allah SWT gives him Hidayah.

Yup..so I just want to share that Quran verse la.. that guidance. In case any of you is asked to become a Christian or Jew.

And I'm still in awe, when i think about how the Quran guides us. Memang pun, the Quran is given TO guide us. yeah..

May Allah SWT guide us all and KEEP us in the path of the True.

It's not that I don't believe in what Jesus Christ taught to his people. I do. Muslims do.

How can you say that you believe what Christ Taught? This is Christ’s Words from the New Testament.
ST MATTHEW Chapter 11 verse 27
“All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

Chapter 28 verse 18,19,20

Abraham had Isaac and Isaac had Jacob and God Followed this line and blessed it. David was known as the man after God’s own heart. Christ was of this line and was not a Levite priest but after the order of Melchizedek.
GENESIS Chapter 14 verse 18 and 19 Old Testament
HEBREW Chapter 7 verse 21 New Testament

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad

Christ grafted Christians to the Hebrew Tree.
Christ without sin and as a young man was nailed to the Cross for you. Take up the cross and follow him. He loved you so much he died for you.
Muhammad was not a Christian. He claimed he was correcting the religion of the Christians and Hebrews.

Muhammad claim to descend from Ishmael the son that Abraham rejected and sent out into the wilderness to die. Muhammad married Aisha a child of 5 or 6 and consummated the marriage when she was only 9 years old. Muhammad will lead his people to God's wrath.

Salams Sis. Thanks for sharing the verses with us. Very apt in light of the current situation, in S'pore at least, whereby we see so many pendakwah Kristian sana-sini preying on weak souls. They can be seen on MRT trains and at bus interchanges all over the island.

May Allah swt guide and protect us, Ameen.

Anonymous, I believe our sis meant that we Muslims believe in Christ as a prophet in Islam and the words of Allah that he taught. Those words that were purportedly said by Christ in the New Testament were not his words at all but the words of his followers like Paul. Ever wondered why there was an Old and New Testament when the Al-Quran remained unchanged till this very day (excluding those manipulated by enemies of Islam of course)?

Anonymous said...

The Old testament Christians use was translated from the Hebrew Bible as accurately as possible by dedicated scholars with no intention of changing the meaning.
Mohammad took the words from the Old Testament and changed what he did not like. Christians know that the Israelis are Gods Chosen People. Three wise men come from the east bearing presents when Christ was born.

Melchizedek is in the Old Testament. He was called the priest of the most high God. Where do you place this priest? Or did Mohammad cut that. Christ was nailed to the cross until he died and on the third day he rose from the dead. My Christ lives. This was over 2000 years ago.
Mohammad lived about 600 years ago.
That man is dead and should be forgotten.

Anonymous (why not identify yourself?), Muhammad did not take words from the Old Testament and changed them as you claimed. Perhaps that was what all Christians were taught. He received Allah's words through the angel Gabriel (Jibril). And in case you didn't know, the one crucified at the cross was not Jesus at all.

Salaam or Peace all! (Esp to Sis Erni)

Hi everyone! Seems like a very interesting conversation going on here. =)

I'm Alfian, and I'd like to think of myself as a practicing Muslim.

Anyways, I'd like to say that we can debate non-stop till the cows come home and will still not arrive to any definite conclusion. Who are we to decide who's right and who's wrong? Let God decide that. Since only He is the All-Knowing, All-Wise and All-Just, right?

What can we do that's within our capacity instead? I think we can sincerely devote ourselves to Him and pray that He extends His Mercy to us by guiding us to that True Path that leads to Him.

We do believe that God is ever the All-Loving and All Merciful, don't we? I'm sure He will not let prayers of sincere souls go to waste, but grants them Guidance to the True Path instead. Let Him Guide us.

And don't just stop with the prayers. Do include with it, action. Open up the books. Books of all the Abrahamic religions, in the hope that He leads us to the Truth. I'm sure that if we're sincere, He will never let us go astray.

I observe here that we tend to debate using our assumptions of the other's faith as our proofs.

In the spirit of Religious Harmony, let's first of all, have the courage to seek some basic knowledge of one another's religion, with the intention to understand where the other party is coming from.

Otherwise, we will only engage in shallow debates and end up frustrated, offended and defensive. Or, worst still -and God forbids-, insulting and making enemies out of one another.

salaam.

bro alfian is right. the debate that is going on is done on the basis of assumptions, without thoroughly understanding the other's faith.
cliched as it may sound, one can never underappreciate the importance of respect n tolerance... learn as much as we can and God-Willing, the Truth will be revealed...
thus,on that note should anyone want to learn more about other faiths, i believe it is wise to not simply quote from sources such as wikipedia, because it can be obscure...we live in a multi-religious society, in which there are better sources that we can gain knowledge from.
and lastly, thank you kak erni for posting the verses, indeed it is inspiring :)and thank you yara for explaining n anonymous too for shedding some light on his or her faith.

Hello hello Anonymous. Just like there's Windows 3.1, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP and soon to be Windows Vista, there was Judaism, Christianity and now the very current Islam. Go update yourselves please!

Anyways, as I always told everyone else, I went to a Methodist school for 10 years. Make that 12 if you want to include the 2 years of kindergarten. They made me go to the church, they made me sing hymns, they made me take home a bible. Did I end up being a Christian after 12 years of learning the Christian religion? NO. So what does that tell you? You can't force Christianity down my throat, brother. As much as I love you as another of Allah's creation, if you don't respect me and my beliefs and the way I live my life, then why should I even sell myself to your so-called marketing program.

By the way, I'm also family friends with a Methodist pastor who brought me up when I was fatherless. He has not once tried to make me or my family become Christians! I can give you his name and the church if you want and you can ask him why. Maybe he can teach you something.

Just in case nobody knows of this, there's this marketing thing they're doing right now. 1 Muslim head, they get a few thousand dollars. That's why they're so hard-pressed to get Muslims to convert.

Oh yea, there was one more thing I didn't mention. A few years ago, some colleague tried to make me go to church with her. She was a Buddhist, turned Christian. Of course, I said no thanks. Then she tried to explain to me everything... I said, it's ok lah, I know already... They taught me for 12 years every Monday. But she kept going on and on that Jesus is the saviour. Then I said, Muslims believe in Jesus Christ too. She was shocked! Shocked beyond belief. I told her if she didn't believe what I just said, go ask another Muslim. I dunno if she did. But you know, I rasa kan, dia tu ikut2 orang sebab dia kata dia suka pergi sana sebab ada concert lah, nyanyi2, orang2 muda... semua macam westernized... kalau ikutkan kaum original dia, mana ada concert, nyanyi2, networking, etc... dung-dung cheh lagi ada.

Ann,

how r u? i doakan that u'll have a smooth delivery. Ameen.
eh... da deliver ke belum?!

yara,
Thanks for the clarifications. yup, we need to deepen our knowledge in Islam, to strenghten our iman.

anonymous,
tks for dropping by.
I read this about the bible:
http://www.greatsite.com/timeline-english-bible-history/

I choose to believe in the religion of Abraham the True, as mentioned in the post. I'm sure u believe in Abraham's Lord also?

p.s. The Prophet Muhammad SAW, lived more than 1400 yrs ago, not 600.

alfian/n2,

i agree with u.

"And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, except with means better (than mere disputation), unless it be with those of them who inflict wrong (and injury): but say, "We believe in the revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you; Our God and your God is one; and it is to Him we surrender."
Al Quran, Al-'Ankabut, 29:46

hart,
yup, i also know of some who became christians not because they truly believe, but just because it's 'cool', 'simpler', the 'in thing' - u know, reasons other than belief.

a christian friend of mine pulak, was not aware that on Hari raya Haji, we do the korban, in remembrance of Abraham's near sacrifice of his son. I guess most of them, have no idea that we share the same histories of the prophets.

I agree with bro alfian that we should learn about other religions too.. I have been tolerant all these years. I was just making a stand against the sacrilegious remarks that bordered on debasement of our beloved Prophet (pbuh) made incessantly by our Anonymous contributor. If we in this country can heed the call to Stand Up for Singapore and accept the racial and religious harmony propaganda, why not stand up for Islam against such malicious attacks? If I had done wrong . then I pray that Allah will forgive me and give me guidance.

Sie Erni, my apologies if my intention has been misunderstood by your visitors here and sparked all these off.

madame blossom said...

yara,

eeeeehhh.. apa apologies niii? of course it's ok to stand up for our Prophet.. Nobody misunderstood your intentions. And I don't think you sparked anything off.
My entry itself sparked it off.. so, don' t need to take credit for that, ok. ;)

Did you read my comments in the last post, that I aim to make my own toast? nanti lah.. nak kena beli kaya dulu.

have a GOOD friday.

Yara said...

Thanks Sis and I'll give credit where it's due :)

Kalau you were my neighbour, I would make roti bakar for you every morning :)...sampai you naik muak..heh..heh

Ok..go get that kaya quickly.

Have a positive and good Friday too (I hope no one starts associating this with THAT Good Friday..heh..heh)

Yara
I have a blog identity that I use on all blogs to draw people to my blogs. I decided to be anonymous because this is too important to me to use for gain. This is not about me. It is about what I believe as a Christian. I am called to witness to other people as a Christian. I have heard that a Nun was killed over a cartoon that she did not draw. I heard that while they killed her she forgave them. I love Christ and do not like for any one to disrespect Christ. I may feel like Peter that cut off an ear but I know that Christ picked up the ear and put it back and rebuked Peter. I know that one angel can destroy an Army. It is not my place to defend Christ. It is my place to witness as well as I can. Why do you feel that you have to defend Mohammad? Is it because he is powerless and God will not defend him?

Alfrian
I am told to love my enemies as a Christian. Who lead me to this site when I only click the next button? I can tell you the Title drew me to read the post.
I believe the Anti Christ will soon come claiming to be Christ. Many will be deceived. It will take faith in the true Christ and the knowledge of how he will next come. Much will be fulfilled soon.

Hartini
I remember a 6year old walking toward the school bus with his books in his hands while his mother watched
Within a short distance of the bus he threw his notebook in a large ditch and ran back to his house. This was to be his second day in school. I don’t know what the mother did but the third day he got on the bus and went to school with no obvious problem. I don’t remember him missing another day.

I think the old Methodist Minister forced a child to get an education. I am sure the old Methodist Minister would have liked for you to be a Christian as I would. I would be surprised to hear that the Methodist forced you to be emerged or sprinkled with water. I would guess he forced you to learn English. Did he expect to make an Englishman out of you?

As far as the Methodist that raised you and did not force you to be Christian. I feel he has done his best witness to you without force. Ask the Man if he believes in the Father the Son and Holy Ghost. Show him my post and ask him what I am talking about. It may be painful for him to disagree with you so don’t press the old man to hard.
I believe if you bring up Muslims being a newer religion. Mormons and scientology are newer.
I have met Mormons at my door and gave them the best witness I could. I wish I had a computer with 3.1 on it XP does not allow me to do some things that I could do with 3.1. I have been a Christian for 56 years I come to the Lord of my own free will and that is required to be a Christian.

I am sorry to hear about the marketing program. How do you think an anonymous man will be paid?
I do not think any further comment from this Christian is desired or needed.

salaar my darling blossom,
i don't know if i should be disgusted or laugh hysterically. around my place here pun bersepah orang2 diorang so-called buat da'wah and whenever i pass them i will stare at them in the eye. so far, none dared to "reciprocate."

islam has been the fastest growing religion and i believed no one forced these people into embracing it. so if diorang nya agama betul sangat, why see the need to pay people to be christians? *tsk*

alfian is right, sampai kiamat pun benda nih tak kan habis kalau dibentangkan dengan hujah2. nak kena bacakan surah al-kafirun dengan si anonymous nih. biar dia tahu that islam is a religion of peace. engkau dengan agama kau dan aku dengan agama aku.

may allaah strengthen our iman, give us patience in going through cabaran akhir zaman and may we preserve jati diri kita sebagai orang muslimin. ameen. insyaa allaah.

good entry. ;-)

ps: hartini - i heard somewhere that these churches staffs yang kerja nyer memurtadkan orang said kan, orang2 islam lah yang paling susah sekali nak diajak masuk christian.

I was going to send him some more insults, but then, enuf lah. I don't want to cause chaos at Erni's blog :) Plus he said he was going to belah, right... Pengecut betul dia. Dah lah anonymous, tak nak leave a name or something - takut nah ke kita report kat mafia gi cari dia? *hehehee*

Erni >>> Yea, they seem extremely clueless abt Islam and the practices. Unless they have Muslim friends who are open to 'educate' them, they will not learn anything in Church.

Yours Truly >>> I think it came out on TV too, but I didn't see it - just heard it from a relative. A lot of people complaining coz too many lost Malay teenagers, even the ones dressed with the hijab, are wearing the cross under the hijab, etc... So please be very careful if you have growing kids. Don't want them to fall into that trap. Then I got an email with the recruiter's photo attached. If I can find it, I'll email it around again.

PS: Who said Mormon and Scientology are religions? They're cult!
