I was watching Little Mosque on the Prairie - Rayyan was calling Amaar, asking him for coffee (she's engaged to someone else). And I found myself thinking - oh hmm.. it's quite OK to do that. But then I thought some more - and it's not as straightforward as it is.
I guess visual examples, be it on the media or in real live, can easily influence how a person thinks or behave - if he is not conscious about it.
That is why, we need more media materials (movies, dramas, advertisements, novels) that portrays good examples - because whether you admit it or not - it does affect your line of thoughts.
I'm reading 'Blink' and some part of it seems to explain this effect. If I have the time and the mood and the inspiration - I'd like to dwell more on this.. in writing.

u r doing 'blink'? hee. i tried tat way back in april, but after the first chapter, i threw in the towel (but hubs presevered). maybe i'll pick it up again ... 3 years later. then we can talk it over.
oh you watch little mosque on the prairie too? did you follow from season 1 till season 3, or just that particular episode?
zee,
i just got blink.. the first few chapters was a bit boring.. i'm in the middle now, around chapter four, and it's a bit more interesting.
hairil,
I do. first season i saw.. then i didn't see 2nd one.. i jumped to the third one. saw 4 episodes. :)
there is an counter thesis to that book though.
its called: think!
haha seriously
ekceli amaar likes rayyan and rayyan likes amaar. only that they hadn't had the courage to tell each other.
suddenly JJ comes into the picture. and he proposes to rayyan. of course rayyan agreed as JJ's a good guy, and its high time she settled down.
amaar should be with rayyan!
ok i can't believe i just typed all that. haha.
anyway, i think it depicts a real life scenario. and the coffee part, though the western culture is different, well its "normal", to "normal" people even in singapore.
for us, we'd be expecting something surreal. like man and woman no-no unless they've some business, properly veiled muslimah etc. one can never stop hoping for idealism =)
khairu,
heh.. then I shud read Think, after Blink (i like the sound of that!) to learn both sides of the arguments.
Anyway, I believe both 'blink' and 'think' shud apply, depending on the situation.
Hairil,
I can't believe you did that, either. haha.. but it's cute. Yup.. that's why I was disappointed at the end of episode 4. :(
Having coffee.. getting a ride.. those kind of stuff.. I'm generally open minded.
you know i having just watched the latest season of LMOTP ..
i cannot understand why Ammar and Rayyan can't come clean!
i mean if you really like someone and find him or her so blinking compatible then why in the world not let it be known to each other ??!!
poor JJ who got suck into all this. but that's besides the point (about JJ).
the point is why go on in misery when all you need to do is to simply tell the person your true feelings and seek clarification. is that seriously too hard?!
maybe thats the cliffhanger but i have seen that happen even in reality too ..
huge baggage.
haiya people ...
