why my children should not read the english papers

I can't take it anymore.

Dear sirs and madams,

I would like to express how disturbed I am by the pictures of almost naked women, that you splashed over page 30 of the New Paper today, dated 6th October 2007.

I believe it is NOT APPROPRIATE for children to see. I haven't bought any kind of men's magazines, but I'm sure, those are exactly the kind of pictures that you would put in those magazines, which is restricted to children.

This is also not the first time, that the paper have shown inappropriate images over it's pages.

It's exactly because of this, that I feel uncomfortable, if my children were allowed to read the English papers. I don't feel safe, because I don't know what kind of inappropriate images my children will be exposed to.

Gone are the days, when we can simply encourage the children to read the English newspapers to improve their English.

I hope the paper will realise that they have a general audience which includes children as young as 7 years old. This paper is not rated. So kindly be more sensitive to what kind of images you want to show in your papers.

Continuing to show these kind of images, to me, means that the paper think that it is perfectly alright, for children to see these images. Or, the paper agrees that it requires parental guidance.

The paper's sensitivity and careful consideration is very much appreciated.

Salam Erni,

With the internet these days, it is getting more and more difficult for parents and it does not help that the printed media, which is more easily accessible, choose to make things harder. It seems that gone are the days when only girly magazines and tabloids carry inappropriate images now that mainstream publications like daily newspapers have also jumped onto the bandwagon. Definitely a case of profits over morality. Sad.

yara,
yup. monetary and narrow perception of life and what advancements mean.

am,
hmm.. i couldn't do anything much. Just raise my opinion.. but diorang tetap dengan pendirian diorang.

su,
it's true.. memang banyak benda kena tapis - sampai tak tertapis. So kena explain and doa banyak2.

*anyway.. editor dia da reply. dia kata.. kalau children tengok, patut under supervision of parents. To me, that means the paper is rated PG - Parental Guidance required.

Salaam.. keep it up!

Well you did take action but this is the reality of this era..

All we have left with is to explain to our children whats ok and whats not even if they don't understand why.. till they are able to avoid whatever that is impermissable on thier own will.. It goes more than just telling them,"Ni berdosa tak leh tengok!"

It won't be easy but thats the only way i think..

salam redtide,

Yeah i know - it's how it is now. Just felt that I needed to speak out against it.. somebody has to at least say something. Let it be known that it's not tolerated.

Memang tricky and not easy to raise children in this current era. 'itu dosa' aje.. da tak jalan. must explain with more rational and logical reasons.

but u're a good boy kan? :D
