'Muslimah Anggun'?

And so there will be an online contest called 'Muslimah Anggun'.

I wonder what the objective of this contest is. Are they trying to find a Muslimah role model?
I would understand the need to have a good Muslimah role model, rather than just having the likes of Maya Karin, Fasha Sanda, Rihana or who's that troubled singer with very big hairdo and very thick eyeliner who reminds me of Morticia from Adam's Family? .......... Whatever. Anyhow I truly understand the need.

If that IS the objective, is the criteria enough to find or name a 'Muslimah Anggun'? Then after that, is it enough to just 'crown' her, give her a thousand and end it there?

To enter this event, you'd have to be...err female( this is clear.. so even if you only resemble a female - that's still not accepted), age between 13 (not too young?) to 24, have good looks (very subjective), pleasant personality.
The information that the judges and public will judge upon are: the photo, and the submitted biodata - name, age, occupation, interest.

Those are NOT enough to judge on anggun-ness. What IS 'anggun'? According to a friend of mine, anggun means elegant, noble, dignified, impressive inappearance or manner, and calm. How do you judge elegance, nobleness, mannerism, dignity, calmness - based on the little information provided?

If this contest is to meet the assumed objective, then, they NEED to include in the criteria - speech and intelligence shown through question and answers or a view on a certain issue or ruling. Perhaps knowledge on Islam, and feedback from friends and families on which are the qualities of that person, that they like best.

More emphasis should be given on their personality, intelligence, Islamic knowledge, overall appearance, and general opinion about them - rather than beauty. Because truly, beauty lies from within.. I have seen it many many times - a girl or a guy may not be drop dead gorgeous or even good-looking, but their personality and/or intelligence - make them much more attractive than the most good looking person around. These are the people that would make good role models.

Oh well, I guess this is the first time that such a contest is being organised... kan? I'm not so up to date with such happenings.

There will always be room for improvement. So I hope the next time they organise something like this - they should be clear about their objectives, which should be meaningful. Then organise the whole contest to meet those objectives EFFECTIVELY - and of course, within the boundaries of what is acceptable in Islam. After all, this is a 'Muslimah' we're talking about right?

Salaam.. Hmm..if this is just a competition based on looks and body, only that this is based on 'women's "Muslim" fashion', than hmm, well ya know..anggun pon tak sangat, Muslimah pon tak terus..

sis erni, i agree with you actually, there need to be some clear objectives to organise such competitions. but i can assure you and all that muslimah anggun is not merely about looks. well, at least there's no mention of a catwalk thingy or the likes. so let's hope the organizers hear our concerns!! :))

norza,
I do hope they are NOT just imitating Miss Universe - for which I can't think of any good objectives other than more vanity. But I'm thinking and hoping that Muslimah Anggun has a more noble objective - like finding a good role model.

btw, norza.. I nak contact you!! pasal photography.. :D

team invoke,
salam people. sure, you can reference to this post from invoke.sg :)

hello virtual p.

hi seri,
Catwalks?! They should NEVER include that in competitions - it always reminds me of how people used to show and sell their slaves (idea dari some movies)..actually i find that kind of degrading. different for a fashion show.. itu objectivenya nak tunjuk baju.

Anyhow - yes, I hope the organisers will hear our concerns and make events with clear objectives and not have the event just for the sake of having it. :)

am,
gadis melayu? I'm almost certain.. sure lagu 'gadis melayu' jamal abdillah tu jadi theme song? :D

salaam dear sis....i have always look up to this lady.... Not other than our own Bik Alin, she is a devoted mom to her 3 children, wife to her husband who is a chinese convert(she guided him very well),daughter to an aged mother, sister to singlemother eldersis with a daugther(she is very caring and patient sharing her roof with them), on top of that she make delicious and beautiful cakes. She always give me good advices if I come to her for any opinion. I think she is the most Anggun Muslimah that I have ever met..i love her so much....

so i hope the "people or organizer" who wanted to have this socalled competition shld look at this kind of factors...not just thick makeup and gelek-gelek on the stage...kalau macam gitu kat joo chiat complex banyak....kan kan kan...

if the term MUSLIMAH is used here, then it's so distortly abused. a MUSLIMah is beauty personified from the inside, which translates to her quiet and graceful actions on the outside (how she carries herself), not by voting based on pictures.

and an ideal MUSLIMah should not even be attracting attention to herself, by having the world to look at her pics online and to VOTE on it.

Sheesh...
i'd say BOYCOT it.
